I have been kayaking a while now and I am also interested in technology (20 years in IT) and I am a big believer in its ability to make our lives better and safer. I started looking around for products that would suit my needs but I struggled. Everything I could find was not designed for a small vessel like a kayak but was adapted by clever users.

The big feature that I wanted to develop was what inspired the name. I take my kayak out on my own quite often and this can be dangerous. Most of the time I am not in deep water but you never know and should always be prepared. Yes, I was a boy scout and proud of it. You can, and should, wear a PFD but its the 21st century and we can do better.

The idea with Onshore Buddy is that you can create a plan ahead of time and share that with friends and family. They will get a message with a link to your itinerary and anything you want them to know about your trip. These "Onshore Buddies" can check in on your progress and get alerts when you are back on land.
